š” My Design Philosophy
Design starts with questions, not sketches.
The first thing I ask on any project: "Who uses this? And why?"
No amount of beautiful design matters if users don't know what to do. So I always start with research ā actual user data, interviews, behavior patterns. That's the foundation for every design decision I make.
Good design isn't about what it looks like. It's about what it does.
Good design is problem-solving.
Every project comes down to three questions:
1. What problem does this user actually have?
2. Why isn't the current design solving it?
3. How do we fix it?
The design that comes out of honestly answering these questions?
That's good design. Everything else is just decoration.
Design is a team sport.
You can have the most brilliant design idea in the world, but if your developers don't understand it, your PMs aren't aligned on it, and your users never asked for it ā it doesn't matter.
Good design comes from conversation. With developers who'll tell you what's actually buildable. With PMs who understand the business constraints. With marketers who know the audience. With real users who'll tell you when you're wrong.
"Good design" loses to "design we built together." Every time.
After years of working in consulting, I realized the best insights happen in meetings and Slack threads ā and then they disappear.
The moment someone figures out why a design works. The mistake that led to a breakthrough. The conversation that shifted how everyone thinks about the problem.
Those insights deserve to exist somewhere other than team notes.
Design Unboxed is that space. A place where we can explore what actually makes good UX work, and share what we're learning along the way.
